Psalms 119:133 Order my steps in Your Word; and do not let any iniquity rule over me.
Bible Reading for April 16 (ONPP)
I Samuel 1 – 4, Psalms 91
I Samuel 1:28 – As Abraham took Isaac to sacrifice at God’s direction knowing also that God had promised to bless the world trough Isaac and that there would be a great multitude come from him, Hannah also brought her son, the promised gift of God, to serve as a living sacrifice to honor Him.
I Samuel 2:1 – There must have been people designated to write this down or they recorded it on tape and transcribed it later. 😉
I Samuel 2:3 – Hannah realizes that knowledge is important to a relationship with God and not just feelings. We trust God by the faith in the knowledge that He gives us in His Word.
I Samuel 2:4 – Hannah is telling us that God can take the weakest and make them strong.
I Samuel 2:15 – Eli’s sons were not allowing God to be their provider but they wanted to do it for themselves. As their self–reliance persisted the evidence of not trusting God increases. They were to be watchmen for the people in matters of sin not purveyors of sin.
I Samuel 2:21 – Hannah was rewarded for her faithfulness in fulfilling her promise to God. Hannah did not change her mind as God does not fail to fulfill His promises. Her psalm in verse 5 came to pass or was after this instance meanwhile apparently Peninnah stopped bearing.
I Samuel 2:22 – This shows the heart of Eli’s sons. Eli should have been disciplining them and reproving them when they first began to do wrong rather than waiting till their debauchery rose to effect the people.
I Samuel 2:30 – The sins of the father do have an effect on the children. Because of the lack of respect for God and His precepts Eli’s descendants will not see old age. They may be able to have descendants of their own therefore being able to walk before God forever but nowhere does God promise that they will be great in number or great in age.
I Samuel 3:1 – Because Israel was doing what was right in their own eyes, they left God out of their lives and God permitted them to follow their own wishes.
I Samuel 3:3 – Eli must have put Samuel in charge of keeping the candlesticks filled and wicks trimmed for he was lying down in the temple.
I Samuel 3:7 – I realize that our children can be a help in the church without knowing the miracle of salvation but they should know of that miracle unless we are very neglectful about teaching them. Since this neglect has come to fruit in Eli’s sons it is no wonder that Eli is also neglectful in teaching Samuel.
I Samuel 3:19 – Unlike Eli, Samuel took care to heed and preach God’s word and not let it be trampled on.
I Samuel 4:4 – When has the ark ever been used in battle without the command of God?
I Samuel 4:22 – The Glory had departed from Israel many years ago when they failed to drive out or destroy the inhabitants of Canaan when God told them to.
Psalms 91:4 – In Matthew 23:37 Jesus makes a similar reference to God’s loving care
Mat_23:37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one killing the prophets and stoning those who are sent to her, how often would I have gathered your children together, even as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you would not!
Psalms 91:11–12 – Satan tries to use these verses to get Jesus to sin (put His pride above the path God had for Him) in Matthew 4:6. The temptation came from Satan, however Jesus did not yield to temptation but humbled Himself to God’s plan and responded Mat 4:7 Jesus said to him, It is written again, “You shall not tempt the Lord your God.”
