Psalms 119:133 Order my steps in Your Word; and do not let any iniquity rule over me.
Bible Reading for April 21 (ONPP)
I Samuel 17 – 20, Psalms 95
I Samuel 17:7 – Another iron weapon in the Bronze Age.
I Samuel 17:9 – Don’t believe those that don’t worship Jehovah. They will promise anything if they think they have the advantage and if they lose they will not abide by their agreement.
I Samuel 17:11 – Saul’s hesitation to go to battle with the Philistines shows that he believes Samuel’s decree that the Lord has rejected him as being king over Israel. Saul wants to extend his reign as long as possible even showing that he is a coward.
I Samuel 17:26 – For who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God? David had heard how at many times God delivered Israel’s enemies to the slaughter, why should this one be any different? God helped me to prepare these personal comments from bible reading and now He is helping me to make them available for our church’s posts this year.
I Samuel 17:28 – Had David been bragging to his brothers about Samuel’s anointing or was Eliab jealous because he the oldest and strongest was not chosen?
I Samuel 17:33 – You are small and have been my armor bearer in peace time. What makes you think that you could defeat this giant that I will not go up against?
I Samuel 17:36 – This shepherd is a little Samson isn’t he? No, Jehovah is always God!
I Samuel 17:37 – Is Saul going to honor the proposal that Goliath has made to be their slaves if David is defeated? Or is Saul as duplicitous as the Philistines will show that they are. Does Saul know that David has been anointed king by Samuel and is trying to rid himself of this new anointed one?
I Samuel 17:38 – Does Saul realize that he is giving honor to the next king of Israel crowning him with a helmet and surrounding him with protection?
I Samuel 17:39 – David was not comfortable wearing the protection that the world provided but relied on the protection that the Lord had given him throughout his life.
I Samuel 17:41 – This is supposed to be a one on one battle but Goliath brought his shield bearer so also David brought his shield bearer, Jehovah, God almighty!
I Samuel 17:48 – Goliath did not realize that David used a sling and not a staff until they began the conflict.
I Samuel 17:51 – David killed Goliath with Goliath’s own sword. These Philistines did not drop to their knee to become a slave to Israel. They ran showing that they would not submit to their pledge through Goliath.
I Samuel 17:55 – Saul’s inquiry was to complete his pledge to free the house of the man’s father from taxes. But he must have forgotten that he was told about David’s family when David came to play the harp.
I Samuel 18:1 – Jonathan is showing the agape form of love the love that God has for us. Jonathan would give up everything to see David succeed.
I Samuel 18:4 – Now not only has Saul proverbially given David the crown and protection of Israel, now Jonathan gave David the robes of the inheritance of the throne as well as the sword and bow to protect the nation.
I Samuel 18:9 – Saul’s pride is coming out as jealously over David’s success. I wonder who is taking care of the sheep and how his brothers are doing?
I Samuel 19:24 – This is the second time that this has happened to Saul.
I Samuel 20:31 – Saul did know that David was to be king after him. All of his anger is because he worships the position of leader rather than Jehovah God.
Psalms 95:1 – Do not forsake the assembling of ourselves together.
Psalms 95:6–11 – Over and over God gives us the pattern to salvation, the BIG If in verse 7, reminding us of what happens when we go it alone as in verses 8–11.
