Bible Reading for April 23 (ONPP)
I Samuel 21 – 24, Psalms 97
I Samuel 21:6 – Because David had been on the run from Saul for the last three days and had not been with his wife Michal, he was clean and thus eligible to eat the bread that had been taken off of the showbread table.
I Samuel 21:9 – The sword of Goliath that he would have used to sever David’s head and was used instead to sever Goliath’s head is here to be used to protect David.
I Samuel 22:1 – God gathers an army around David to protect and supply him.
I Samuel 22:3 – David’s great grandmother, Ruth, was from Moab and his father may have had ongoing connections in Moab.
I Samuel 22:19 – Why didn’t Saul do this to the Amalekites? Saul did not fear God nor obey Him. Saul only cared about his leadership position and his heritage keeping the throne.
I Samuel 22:20 – God saved one in the priestly line, a young one for none of the heritage of Eli will attain old age. Eli, Phinehas, Ahitub, Ahiah, Ahimelech, and Abiathar. The last reference in the life of Abiathar is in I Kings 2:27.
I Samuel 23:2 – David is showing his trust in Jehovah by seeking His direction for his life.
I Samuel 23:7 – Here starts the long chase of Saul to catch David. This will not end until I Samuel 27:4.
I Samuel 23:13 – This army gathered around David has grown since David garrisoned in the cave Adullam.
I Samuel 23:18 – This is the last time that David and Jonathan meet. 🙁
I Samuel 23:26 – When God is protecting you danger can be so near, but still far away. It may be that the car ahead of me is going slow to keep me from arriving at the same spot as another car. Or I’m put in a rush to get ahead of some traffic or accident.
I Samuel 24:4 – Saul must have been occupied in sleep or something to ignore someone cutting the bottom of his robe.
I Samuel 24:13 – Sayings like this show man’s iniquity through history. Ex: Give them enough rope and they will hang themselves.
I Samuel 24:20 – Saul now admits that David is to be the next king. But …
