Bible Reading for April 26 (ONPP)
John 4 – 6, Psalms 99
John 4:23 – I Samuel 15:22 And Samuel said, Does Jehovah delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as in obeying the voice of Jehovah? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice! To listen is better than the fat of rams!
John 4:29 – Jesus has made an evangelical preacher to the mixed multitude of Samaria out of this woman.
John 4:41 – Because Jesus went to Samaria, many there believed when they received His word.
John 4:49 – It is hard for us to comprehend that God is omnipresent while we can only be in one place at a time.
John 5:6 – Did Jesus see this man when He came with his family to Jerusalem? If He had, this shows the great compassion Jesus has for those that need help, just as we need help, for the ransom payment of our sin.
John 5:16 – Even though this man may have been a drain on the resources of the temple they persecuted Jesus because He had healed on the Sabbath. Their hatred was so vile that they sought to kill Jesus for doing good just to honor the Sabbath. This worship of the Sabbath above God is their idol. Who else but God could heal like this? Therefore they are putting the worship of the Sabbath above that of God.
(Henry Cometary) – Thus hypocrites often cover their real enmity against the power of godliness with a pretended zeal for the form of it.
John 5:17–21 – Jesus gives a step by step of His authority and this enrages the authorities of the Jews because of their unbelief.
John 5:18 – They perceived that He was calling God His Father.
John 5:19 – Jesus is saying that He has seen God do these things and as a good Son He does what His Father does.
John 5:20 – God has shown Jesus everything that He has done and will do.
John 5:23 – Jesus said that He will replicate not imitate, what God does.
John 5:22 – This is a corollary to John 3:18.
John 5:23 – Wow He is telling them that they should be bowing down to Him as God.
John 5:24 – Now the reference to back up John 3:16–21.
John 5:25 – It is recorded that Jesus raised a few people from death but there were many that were dead in sin who herd and repented to the life of grace. This also refers to the time of the resurrection when those that have trusted God’s promise will hear Christ’s call.
John 5:36 – Jesus is saying that He has given the miracle before the prophecy to validate it. These miracles are a witness of Jesus’s authority.
John 5:37–39 – Now Jesus is telling them about their own life. They are hypocrites reading the scriptures, possibly to prove their own ideas, but not knowing them. I certainly don’t want to be so self–righteous as to twist the scripture to my pride.
John 6:45 – Prophecy fulfilled from Job 21:22, Psalms 25:5, Isaiah 2:3, and Micah 4:2.
John 6:51 – Jesus is the Bread of Life and He is the Word the came in the flesh from Heaven that created all. He gave His flesh as the sacrifice of sin on the cross that He may be accursed and we may be made righteous.
John 6:63 – Jesus is telling us that the Bread is the Spirit and the Blood is the Life.
John 6:64 – In the Beginning, Jesus knew∞
Psalms 99:1 – Wow! Righteousness, Power, Justice, Glory, Holy, Greatness, Merciful, Loving, Forgiving, these words do not come close to describing HIM.
