Bible Reading for August 17 (ONPP)
Isaiah 1 – 4, Psalmss 46
Isaiah 1:3 – Even though several kings of Judah honored God and worshiped Him the people still sacrificed and burned incense on the “high places”.
Isaiah 1:9 – In Malachi 3:6 Jehovah confirms this to His prophet.
Isaiah 1:11–20 – Isaiah is given the detailed form of what Samuel told Saul “Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice! To listen is better than the fat of rams!”
Isaiah 1:21 – The International Standard Version translates “It was full of judgment” as “she who used to be filled with justice!” this is more clear to me in context with the rest of the verse.
Isaiah 1:25 – God is going to purify Israel by skimming off the impure and dividing out those that are not worshiping Him.
Isaiah 4:1 – To be called by a honorable name is more important to these than to be provided for. So it should be to us to be called God’s people than to even ask for provisions. But God is a faithful God and will provide in abundance.
Isaiah 4:3 – When God skims off the dross and separates the alloy what is left is pure and therefore Holy.
