Genesis 24 – 26, Psalms 8
Genesis 24:6 – Abraham did not want Isaac to leave the land that God promised to him.
Genesis 24:67 – Isaac was 36 years old when his mother died and 40 years old when he married Rebekah.
Genesis 25:6 – Abraham sent these children east toward the present day Iraq and Iran.
Genesis 25:8 – Abraham dies at 175 years old Isaac was 75 years old, Esau and Jacob were 15 years old, and Shem, Noah’s son, was still only 525 years old and lived for another 75 years!
Genesis 25:26 – So Isaac and Rebekah were married for 20 years before Jacob and Esau were born. This means Shem is 550 years old. Jacob and Esau could have known Shem during the next 50 years!
Genesis 25:28 – Isaac loved the food that Esau brought him but ignores the prophecy that God had given about the older serving the younger.
Genesis 25:31 – Jacob is buying the birthright with the fruit of the ground instead of the proper sacrifice of the best of the flock.
Genesis 25:32 – Esau despises his birthright in favor of a bowl of soup. A birthright that God gave him by having him born first. Esau did not put his faith in God but in himself, but God knew that from the beginning. Romans 9:13 – As it is written, “Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated.”
Genesis 26:10 – Abimelech had made a treaty with Abraham in Gen 21:23, now Isaac is in the position of God’s prophet. Abimelech is in fear of God and reproves Isaac for the deception and finally makes a new treaty with Isaac in Gen 26:31.
Psalms 8:3-4 – The great majesty of God in contrast to the iniquity of the speck of man.
