Genesis 33 – 35, Psalms 13
Genesis 33:4 – See Jacob, God is with you, Esau has missed you and is happy that you have become rich without taking the portion of firstborn that he sold you for a bowl of soup.
Genesis 34:23 – The men of Shechem are planning to take all of Jacob’s flocks by intermarriage. This should not be surprising considering how Shechem thought of himself rather than others.
Genesis 34:25 – Their actions parallel the actions of Phinehas, the son of Eleazar when Israel began to fornicate with the daughters of Moab. Their motives however do not.
Genesis 35:1 – Jacob is finally going back to Bethel, the place he called God’s house (or door) for there he saw the angels going up and down the ladder and made his promise to God.
Genesis 35:2 – Not only did Rachel have to give up what she had stolen but the captives of Shechem had to give up their gods also.
Genesis 35:5 – How would you feel if this band of people were coming near your town knowing it only took two of them to overthrow Shechem?
Genesis 35:10 – When Jacob wrestled with The Angel of God he was renamed and here it is repeated by God when Jacob came to worship.
Genesis 35:19 – God chose Bethlehem for the birth of Jesus. Joseph, not born in Bethlehem but on the way there, was also a savior of Israel and Egypt with the wisdom given to him from God to deal with the famine.
Genesis 35:28 – Isaac dies aged 180 years, longer than he thought when he sent Jacob (Israel) away.
