Psalms 119:133 Order my steps in Your Word; and do not let any iniquity rule over me.
Bible Reading for June 21 (ONPP)
Romans 4 – 6, Psalms 147
Romans 4:1 – This whole chapter opens up our eyes to faith and the works of faith not works to righteousness.
Romans 4:3 – Showing that faith in God’s work is the basis of receiving righteousness in the Old Testament and the New Testament.
Romans 4:4 – Our reward is His grace in paying our debt on the cross. Least we would have to pay that debt through eternity.
Romans 4:6 – Another OT reference to righteousness by faith not by works, from Psalms 32:1–2
Romans 4:7 – Yes it is such a blessing to be redeemed from the payment of our sin.
Romans 4:11 – Abraham being the father of faith became the father of righteousness. Where circumcision was a private sign of righteousness by belief, not righteousness by circumcision.
Romans 4:14 – If a person could be righteous by obeying the Law then in what part does faith play and why would Christ have to come? What would have the need of one out of the seed of Eve to crush the serpent’s head? What is the need to show Abraham Jehovah’s plan for redemption by a substitute for Isaac?
Romans 5:1 – This chapter points us to Christ and His death as payment for our sinful nature to bring us to God.
Romans 5:4 – And this is how we build faith. Starting with the problem, working through it with patience, gaining experience, and learning to trust in the hope that God has shown us through the scriptures. We don’t work for salvation we work with or through our salvation.
Romans 5:6 – We are each the ungodly that Christ died for.
Romans 5:7 –We are not the one that is unjustly accused or the one that is important to the survival of the community. We are the law breakers and reprobate. Again this is showing that people understand the “need” for a substitute for some. But in relation to God we all need His sinless substitute of Christ for that our faith would be counted for righteousness.
Romans 5:12 – Death came through one man, Adam. Life comes through one man Jesus Christ.
Romans 5:14 – This shows us the truth that the disobedience (sin) of Adam is passed from generation to generation. Before the Law the only law was to not eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil yet all before paid the penalty of death for Adam’s disobedience.
Romans 5:15 – Because sin is earned debt that debt was inherited by all and is made payable from all for who can say they have not put themselves before God and have not sinned? A gift must be received and used to be fully accepted. What use is a gift that is unopened and stuck away unused?
Romans 5:20 – The Law showed a light on on our sin to make it plain to us that we may be broken by the realization of our inadequacy of righteousness and turn to God’s propitiation (substitute) of our payment (death) for our sin.
Romans 6:12 – If sin is not to reign then what? Righteousness of course!
Romans 6:21 – What fruit comes from denying God and His plan for our justification? None, for the fruit of the unbeliever is already death.
Psalms 147:11 – How comforting to know that it is not our physical or financial ability that gives God pleasure but our hope in His mercy.
