Bible Reading for May 11 (ONPP)
I Kings 13 – 15, Psalms 112
I Kings 13:2 – This prophecy against Jeroboam will not be fulfilled until 287 years have passed.
I Kings 13:5 – God fulfills the second prophecy to give credence to the first.
I Kings 13:8 – Should we believe the word of an angel or the word of God? There is so much hatred toward God and His prophet that they are happy to remove as much fo God’s presence as possible through lies and deception just as the serpent did toward Eve.
I Kings 14:2 – Was this disguise for Ahijah or for the people not to recognize that Jeroboam was seeking God’s plan?
I Kings 14:4 – Ahijah could not see that Jeroboam’s wife was disguised so he relied on God’s revelation for knowledge.
I Kings 14:8 – When we fail God He can allow others a chance to do what we were supposed to do. This chance is not a guarantee though. To honor God and follow Him when He gives us the opportunity to do something is what He is expecting.
I Kings 14:13 – Evidently Jeroboam’s son did not turn away from God. He may have been wise enough to discern what his father was doing and chose not to follow it. Following God’s preceipts does not guarantee wealth, decendants, and a long life but it does guarantee an escape from God’s wrath. Acts 16:31, II Timothy 2:19
I Kings 14:17 – The wife of Jeroboam did not believe God’s Word from Ahijah, for if she did she would not have returned to her city but gone to another. God though knew her heart to return to her son. If she had believed and stayed away from the city then when she died Jeroboam would have brought her back to bury her and as her body entered the city the boy would then pass away.
I Kings 15:29 – The prophecies of God’s prophet will always come true.
Psalms 112:3 – Righteousness comes from God and is given to man. It stands forever because God is eternal.
