Bible Reading for May 31 (ONPP)
Acts 14 – 16, Psalms 129
Acts 14:2 – Unbelievers are evil hearted in that they turn away from God and His path. They are jealous and will attempt to destroy that which convicts them of their evil ways. Their pride in themselves is their undoing.
Acts 14:17 – The life giving rain and fruitful harvest is a witness to God’s love for us.
Acts 14:21 – After Paul was stoned he came back to witness to the people where he was stoned and then to the people that encouraged his stoning.
Acts 14:22 – If Christ was so despised and hated should not we also be despised and hated by the world?
Acts 15:5 – Those that are sticklers to the Law are harder to convince of the miracle of grace. Our pride in keeping part of what we can blinds us of the enormity of sin and keeps us on a works salvation that cannot be reached.
Acts 15:8 – Not by works but by faith!
Acts 15:14 – When Simon visited Cornelius he did not circumcise him or add works for him to do to be accepted by God. Cornelius had already been accepted by God through faith. God called Simon to witness the Holy Spirit coming upon Cornelius to prove salvation is by faith not works.
Acts 15:19 – Repent and turn to God doing all things appropriate for repentance. Not giving in to yourself but considering others more important than yourself, that as a result of salvation not the cause of it.
Acts 16:3 – Though circumcision was not necessary for salvation it was necessary for the Jews to accept Timothy.
