Bible Reading for May 6 (ONPP)
John 13 – 15, Psalms 108
John 13:6 – Then He came to Simon Peter, enough said if you remember how Simon Peter had acted before. Simon Peter is showing his pride in not letting his Teacher teach him again. This instance is a time of learning for Simon Peter if he opens his heart to understand it.
John 13:14 – Jesus is also speaking of washing sin out of our lives. We need to help each other clean up our hearts from the daily grime of ourselves even if we have been forgiven of our sins. It is not the besetting sin of the rejection of God’s plan for us but our nature of self that needs cleaning.
John 13:15 – Our pride should not prevent us from bowing low to help.
John 13:18 – A prophecy fulfilled from Psalm 41:9.
John 13:31 – Is allowing Judas to leave and betray Him, the last act Jesus had to do for the rest to come to pass?
John 13:34 – The eleventh commandment and it follows the second greatest commandment to love your neighbor as yourself.
John 14:1 – Peter may deny Jesus three times but Jesus says don’t be troubled about it, just believe in Me. In our own lives we have rejected Jesus many times over and even rejected God’s call to action. When we turn to trust His death on the cross for payment of our sinfulness then He accepts us as His friend.
John 14:6 – That is correct, there is no other way to Heaven than by trusting Jesus and His payment for our sin by His death. Because the payment of sin is death, from the beginning it was so when Adam ate from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, Jesus who had no sin by nature, for He was not the son of a man but of God via the Holy Spirit, nor did He sin by choice, for Satan could not even entice Him to sin, was the only one that could die for another’s sin not having the sentence of death on Him.
John 14:10 – Hear O Israel the Lord thy God is One God!
John 14:26 – So when they preach to others or record the events that had occurred it is the Holy Spirit that helps them remember the events and teaches them the truths revealed in those events.
John 14:30 – The ruler, prince, or god of this world is the same person, Satan.
John 15:3 – Not clean from the washing but through the Word, Himself.
John 15:6 – When the wind blows out the dead branches of the tree in the yard you don’t let them lay, you mulch or burn them.
John 15:22 – Previously animal sacrifice was the instrument God used as the example of a redemptive heart. Now that the sacrifice of the One that has no sin is to be completed, the rejection of Jesus as The Christ, the sacrifice, the redeemer who pays our debt, any other sacrifice is no longer accepted for our redemption. After all everything pointed to God’s own provision for the payment of our sin. God told Adam and Eve that her seed would be crushing the serpent’s head, God provided Abram an alternate sacrifice to his only son Isaac, and many other instances pointed to The Christ as the sacrificial redeemer.
John 15:25 – A prophecy fulfilled from Psalms 35:19 and Psalms 69:4.
Psalms 108:8 – Through Judah is His Lawgiver, Jesus.
