Psalms 119:27 Make me to understand the way of Your Commandments, and I will speak of Your wonderful works.
Bible Reading for October 28 (ONPP)
II Peter 1 – 3, Psalms 108
II Peter 1:5–7 – Peter shows us these stages of growth that we should experience as we grow toward the likeness of Christ.
Faith, Virtue (Goodness, Moral character, Noble character, Worthiness), Knowledge (Understanding), Self–control (Temperance, Abstinence), Patience (Perseverance, Endurance), Godliness (Devotion to God, Piety), Brotherly kindness (Concern for others), Love (Charity)
Each of the above could fill a book and probably have. But the abundance of words does not replace the actions that these qualities represent.
II Peter 1:10 – How do we be sure of our salvation? We need to check the structure of it. We start with the foundation of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, where our building of our character has but one foundation and not several laid one upon another. We build the structure of our calling through God’s Grace through faith, molding our character to reflect His character, trusting in His word to gain knowledge of His plan that we are building toward. We must be patient to receive understanding and grow into a greater devotion to Him to help others along the same path that we are on as those before us helped us. Getting this far we need to top off our building with a penthouse of charity freely sharing to the needs of all. Sometimes earthly materials and knowledge, and mostly the foundation of Jesus Christ, without which there is no hope of life.
II Peter 1:14 – Peter is expecting to be soon crucified as Christ was.
II Peter 1:21 – Because true prophecy comes from God this shows the reason why a prophet gives only true prophecy. If the prophecy is false it comes from man.
II Peter 2:1–2 – This makes a good argument for not letting a evil spirit speak, just as the actions of Jesus and the apostles have shown. Those false prophets claim salvation but ignore the Way of God. Thus those that do not know the Lord will see their actions and equate those that know that Way to them.
II Peter 2:4 – MKJV transliterates hell (tartaroō) as Tartarus, the Greek word has a meaning of the deepest part of hell.
II Peter 2:8 – A believer among the heathen that won’t listen is tormented by himself not realizing that God is giving the heathen no excuse when their judgement comes.
II Peter 2:21 – If it is better for them to have not known the way then should we not evangelize? No, God has given us the example of the sower that sows to all types of soil and does not discriminate perchance we sow into good soil and the harvest will increase.
II Peter 3:5 – In the beginning the world was covered with water and then God separated the water from the land then God kept Noah and his family out of the water during the flood so that His plan could be completed.
II Peter 3:9 – God is merciful in His punishment giving us more time to repent of our evil ways and turn to Him where there will be no condemnation.
II Peter 3:15–16 – Peter is saying that some of Paul’s writing are deep sayings and require much study before being dismissed or misused.
Psalms 108:8 – Through Judah is His Lawgiver, Jesus.
